Authorities on Friday released surveillance videos of two heists at a North Lauderdale Publix in the hopes of capturing the culprits.
The heists happened on different dates and were carried out by different criminals, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
The first crime happened March 25 around 9:35 p.m. after four females — one of them carrying a baby — entered the Publix at 8140 W. McNab Road in North Lauderdale.
Detectives said one of the female culprits stopped to take a selfie in the store before stealing approximately $970 worth of baby formula with her accomplices.
Surveillance video of the incident shows the females — whose ages are unknown— taking items off the store’s shelves and placing them directly into their personal bags, according to BSO.
The four culprits then left the store and got into a dark-colored sedan, which fled the scene.
The female who took the selfie was last seen wearing all white and carrying a brown paper bag, detectives said.
The second female wore a light-colored hoodie, gray pants, slides of an unknown color, and carried a brown paper bag, according to BSO.
Detectives said the third female wore a black shirt, gray hoodie, yellow pants, unknown color slides, and carried a purple handbag.
The fourth female carried a baby in her arms and wore a black outfit with white designs, authorities said. She carried a black and white handbag.
According to investigators, the four females are believed to have committed similar crimes across Florida.
Second Heist at Publix
Detectives on Friday also released surveillance video of an unidentified woman caught on camera leaving the same North Lauderdale Publix with a shopping cart full of items she didn’t pay for.
According to detectives, the crime happened April 11 shorty before 2:30 p.m. when a woman wearing a multi-colored headwrap, yellow tank top, light-colored jeans, and white shoes stole a number of items: Angel Soft bath tissue, Charmin bath tissue, Cottonelle wipes, several Clorox products, and multiple laundry detergents.
The woman also stole a black trash can, which investigators believe contained more stolen items.
Video from the Publix shows the woman walking through the aisles and filling her shopping cart. Another person wearing a brown shirt and black pants is also seen on the video linking up with the first culprit inside the store and helping her steal items, authorities said.
Detectives said the first culprit got into a gray Nissan Altima, which was occupied by a female driver, and fled the scene.
Investigators ask that anyone with information on either Publix heists call BSO North Lauderdale District Det. Sergio Espinoza at 954-722-5800 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch App.
Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477), submit a tip online at browardcrimestoppers.org, or dial **TIPS (8477).
