The Tamarac law enforcement and firefighter community gathered at the Tamarac Village Amphitheater to honor first responders with an “Honor the Stripe” ceremony.
The event occurred on May 15, Peace Officers Memorial Day. The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) members who serve Tamarac and the city’s firefighters participated in the ceremony.
Tamarac and Broward County Commission members spoke about the importance of first responders and their critical work in the community. Family and friends of law enforcement and firefighters then placed a pin on their favorite first responder.
Commissioner Marlon Bolton led the event. “It is important that we honor our police officers and firefighters who put their lives on the line for us daily,” he said.
Mayor Michelle J. Gomez told the audience that the men and women serving as first responders should be honored and respected.
Broward commissioners Robert McKinzie and Michael Udine spoke about honoring law enforcement and firefighters.
Lieutenant Christopher Palamara, Interim Captain for BSO, Tamarac, said he was glad to see people honoring law enforcement.
“Honor the Stripe” was created by Bolton and former commissioner Debra Placko in 2021 to recognize the bravery and dedication of the city’s BSO officers. As a young man, Bolton wanted to become a firefighter or police officer and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in public safety management from Miami-Dade College. His life changed course, and he won an election for the Tamarac Commission. According to Bolton, he remained committed to first responders and made it a point to honor them every year.
This was the first major event at the new Tamarac Village Amphitheater at 9141 West Commercial Boulevard, according to Gomez.
