J.P. Taravella High School hosted senior nights for their winter sports teams before the start of the postseason.
The boys basketball team beat Pompano Beach High School 66-34, recognizing Jordan Arriaga and Nico Novoa. Arriaga led the team with 18 points, while Nick FLorea added 16. Nine players scored points with Logan Shorter, Terry Ettiene, Novoa, Brandon Pitts, Adrian Diaz, Zamar Robinson, and Myrlinski Jean.
JPT went on to fall to Sports Leadership and Management on Saturday but beat Coconut Creek High School 70-39 on Monday and Cypress Bay High School 46-43 the following day. Next, the Trojans will play Coral Glades in their next game on Thursday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m. The Jaguars are 15-5 this year and rank 30th in the state of Florida.
The girls basketball team also beat Pompano Beach High School 44-27 and honored Chloe Ledan, Sarah Zoughai, Ke’shell Gilbert, Amber Beck, Dannielle Duncanson, Willyana Jaques, and Brianna Whittaker.
The Trojans then beat JC Bermudez Doral before falling to Coconut Creek High School and Cypress Bay High School. JPT will also play Coral Glades in their next game on Thursday, January 16, at 6 p.m. The Jaguars come into the game with a record of 3-7.
The boys soccer team has only two wins in 10 games this year, coming against McArthur and Coral Springs High School. The girls’ seniors are Natalia Casseus, Raphaela Jarrin, Natalie Saintil, Kianna Guzman, Damari Sibbles, Melanie Apraez, Angela Rodriguez, Layla Palmaz, Savanna Hilbert, Emily Garcia, and Isabella Castano.
Next, the boys will play Nova High School on Thursday, January 16, at 7 p.m. The Titans are 4-11-1 this year, while the girls are 7-5 this year and will play Nova High School in their final game of the regular season on Thursday, January 16, at 5 p.m. against Nova High School.
