Nathan Gingles {BSO}
Authorities on Sunday charged a Lauderhill man with murder in the killings of three people in Tamarac, including the mother and grandfather of his child.
Nathan Gingles, 43, was captured during a manhunt after illegally taking his four-year-old daughter, Seraphine Gingles, during the alleged murder spree, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Gingles was taken to the BSO Public Safety Building and arrested on three counts of first-degree murder with a firearm, violation of a domestic violence injunction, and interference with custody.
He was being held without bond Monday at the Broward County Main Jail.
According to investigators, BSO learned of one of the killings allegedly committed by Gingles shortly after 6 a.m. on Sunday morning when Broward County Regional Communications received reports of a shooting in the 9700 block of North Grand Duke Circle in Tamarac.
BSO deputies and Tamarac Fire Rescue rushed to the scene and found David Ponzer, the father of Gingles’ estranged wife, Mary, suffering from a gunshot wound on the back patio of a home at 5897 North Plum Bay Parkway in Tamarac, authorities said.
Ponzer, 64, of Tamarac, died at the scene, according to BSO.
BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units launched an investigation and learned that Seraphine Gingles, Pozner’s granddaughter, was taken from the home where he was killed, authorities said.
A statewide Amber Alert was issued for Seraphine shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday. She was believed to have been taken by her dad, Nathan Gingles, who was driving a 2016 silver BMW X3, investigators said.
Shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday, BSO’s V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) deputies spotted the BMW at 7900 West McNab Road in North Lauderdale, according to BSO.
Seraphine was found safe and unharmed, and Nathan Gingles was taken into custody, investigators said.
At the same time, while authorities were searching for Seraphine’s mother, Mary Gingles, deputies found her dead from gunshot wounds inside a home at 5888 North Plum Bay Parkway in Tamarac.
A man named Andrew Ferrin, 36, of Tamarac was also found dead from gunshot wounds in the home. Authorities did not say how Ferrin knew Mary Gingles.
The BSO Dive Team searched a nearby canal and found the gun detectives believed was used in all three killings, according to BSO.
At the time of the killings, there was a court injunction in place barring Nathan Gingles from contact with Mary and Seraphina Gingles, authorities said.
Detectives have not announced a motive for the killings, and additional information about the crimes was not immediately made public Monday.
