A Lauderhill man has been charged with 11 felony counts of child pornography following a cybertip that led authorities to uncover over 100 illegal files on his tablet.
According to arrest records, a months-long investigation by the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force culminated in the arrest of a man identified as Jorge Bermudez Barrera, 65, of Lauderhill, after the discovery of over 100 explicit child pornography files on his electronic device.
The investigation began in September when the South Florida ICAC received Cybertip reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. These reports were based on explicit content flagged by Microsoft and traced through Bing Image Search.
Subpoenas issued to Comcast identified the service address tied to the offending IP as a home near the 4500 block of Northwest 79th Avenue belonging to Barrera.
Four files submitted in the Cybertips were found to depict explicit illegal content. With this evidence, a Residential Search Warrant was obtained, and on December 12, the South Florida ICAC Task Force and BSO SWAT executed the search warrant at the Lauderhill address.
Records show Barrera was detained without incident and admitted to owning a tablet that contained the explicit material. He also claimed a friend gave him the device a year ago and acknowledged that he had been interested in such material for six years despite knowing it was illegal.
An on-scene preview of the tablet uncovered over 100 explicit images and video files involving children as young as infants being raped.
Barrera was taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
