Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives have arrested a North Lauderdale man for the murder of two men in Tamarac in December, authorities said.
Quincy James, 29, was captured Tuesday after barricading himself inside his home in the 6400 block of Southwest 18th Court and refusing to come out, according to BSO.
Authorities said that BSO’s SWAT team used a BearCat loudspeaker to ask James to leave the residence. Canisters of tear gas were also deployed in an effort to force his surrender, BSO said in a press release issued Friday.
“After approximately nine hours of negotiations, James was taken into custody Wednesday morning,” according to the release.
Before the arrest, homicide investigators used “extensive investigative methods” to identify James as a person of interest in the killings, according to BSO.
Multiple search warrants were obtained before detectives—along with investigators with BSO’s V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) unit—visited the North Lauderdale home to serve the warrants.
According to BSO, James is charged with two counts of premeditated murder. One count of possession of a weapon or ammo by a convicted felon, one count of removal of a serial number from a firearm, one count of obstruction of police when serving/executing a warrant, and one count of resisting officers/obstruction without violence.
James’ two victims were found dead inside a vehicle in Tamarac the day after Christmas, BSO detectives said.
Deputies responded to a suspicious incident call in the 4600 block of Northwest 59th Court and discovered the two adult males deceased in a vehicle, according to BSO.
Autopsies performed by the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed the men were murdered.
The victims’ names have not been made public.
James was being without bond Friday at the Broward Main Jail.
