A Lauderhill man faces robbery and assault charges after a brutal early-morning attack in which he allegedly beat, humiliated, and robbed a former coworker.
On November 6, the Lauderhill Police Department responded to reports of a violent robbery incident that had reportedly taken place in the University of Fort Lauderdale parking lot.
According to the police report, the victim told officers the incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. while waiting for a taxi. He said as he waited, a man, later identified as Livingston Hackett, 42, of Lauderhill, whom he recognized from previous work in a mobile car washing service, approached him and demanded money.
Records show the victim said when he responded that he did not owe any, Hackett allegedly took out a knife, placed it on the ground, and began striking the victim.
Witnesses report that Hackett struck the victim multiple times, demanding money and accusing him of “killing his brother.” During the assault, Hackett reportedly searched the victim’s clothing, repeatedly hitting him and removing his shoes.
The victim told LPD that at one point during the beating, he blacked out, and Hackett urinated on him. Eventually, he demanded he withdraw cash from a nearby ATM.
However, as they walked east toward Northwest 40 Avenue, the victim said he managed to escape and ran to a nearby bus station, where he found help from a security guard who contacted 911.
Responding officers located Hackett nearby and conducted a “show up” with the victim, which confirmed Hackett as the suspect.
Officers took Hackett into custody and retrieved the victim’s tablet, which Hackett had used to record parts of the incident. The video reportedly corroborated the victim’s account.
Hackett was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
