Tamarac Commissioner Marlon Bolton was appointed vice mayor at Wednesday’s city commission meeting, marking his second time in the role since being elected in 2016.
The appointment means Bolton will serve as acting mayor whenever Mayor Michelle Gomez is unavailable. His one-year vice mayor term is scheduled to run through December 2026.
Bolton previously served as vice mayor in 2019 and has been a prominent figure on the commission for nearly a decade, according to the city. During that time, he has led initiatives that include the creation of the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Commission on the Status of Women, which focuses on promoting equity and fair treatment for women in the community, a city spokesperson said.
He also launched the Medal of Honor civic award to recognize residents and organizations for outstanding public service, according to the city.
In addition to his work in Tamarac, Bolton is a member of the National Black Caucus of Local and Elected Officials, a group that connects African American municipal leaders nationwide to exchange ideas and strengthen leadership networks, the spokesperson said.
Bolton holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree and an Associate of Arts degree from Miami Dade College, according to the city. He serves as senior pastor of Praise Experience Church and is president of Forecast Holdings.
