Broward County Animal Care makes it easy with its “Fall in Love – Empty the Shelter” FREE pet adoption campaign from October 1 through the 15, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Broward County Animal Care, 2400 SW 42nd Street, Fort Lauderdale. The Bissell Pet Foundation will cover adoption fees, and all adopted pets will be fully vaccinated, sterilized, and microchipped! On Saturday, October 5, this year’s NAMIWalks Broward County, an annual 5k walk to raise funds and bring awareness to the importance of mental health and wellness, will take place at Nova Southeastern University, 3301 College Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33314. Check-in will begin at 8:00 a.m., and the walk will begin at 9:00 a.m. Together, we can reduce the stigma associated with mental health and help everyone get the support they need!
Also, on the 5th, you won’t want to miss our annual Community Garage Sale, held from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – with vendors set up from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. – at Tamarac Park, 7501 N. University Drive. Vendor registration is full, so plenty of treasures will be on display! If you’re interested in joining the waitlist, please call the Tamarac Recreation Center at (954) 597-3674 and leave your first and last name, phone number, and the number of spots you’d like to purchase. You will be contacted if space becomes available.
Finally, on the 5th, Tamarac Fire Rescue and Tamarac Firefighters Benevolent Association present an Open House and Pancake Breakfast at Fire Station 15 (6000 Hiatus Road) from 9:00 a.m. to noon for a yummy breakfast! There will be educational activities, car seat safety checks, Fire truck demonstrations, and an appearance by Sparky the Fire Dog! The cost is $10.00 per person, but kids 12 and under eat free! Proceeds will go to the Tamarac Firefighters.
Please join the BSO Tamarac deputies who keep our community safe at the “National Night Out Against Crime” and “National Faith & Blue” event on Monday, October 14, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the BSO Tamarac District Office, 7515 Pine Island Road. This family-friendly evening is a great opportunity to meet the deputies who patrol our streets so that together, we can promote safety, understanding, and unity in our city! On October 16, the Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce is presenting its 2024 Women In Pink Luncheon. Special guest Lori Parrish, former Broward County Board Member, former Broward County Commissioner, and former Broward County Property Appraiser, will be the speaker along with special guests Pamela Pacheco, business coach, brand strategist, and international speaker, and Hyvelle Ferguson David, TEDx speaker and Founder, Heart Sistas, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering underrepresented women to take control of their health. The luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center Ballroom (8601 W. Commercial Blvd.) and is open to everyone. There is a $45 cover charge. Have you gotten your flu shot yet? It’s a pleasure to partner with Walgreens to offer FREE (with most insurance) flu vaccinations this month and next! The shots are available from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, and Thursday, November 21, at the Tamarac Community Center. Walk-ins welcome! Other vaccines are also available. Be sure to bring your photo ID and insurance card with you. Vouchers are also available on a first-come, first-served basis for those under 65 and without insurance.
Are you ready to get in the spooky spirit? Bring the family and enjoy our Halloween Hoopla on Friday, October 18th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Tamarac Park, 7501 N. University Drive. This FREE event for all ages will include music, arts & crafts, bounce houses, face painting, carnival games, prizes, candy, and more. The first 500 kids will receive a free bag of treats!
The Halloween fun continues during the day on Saturday, October 19, with the Great Pumpkin Splash from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Caporella Aquatic Center, 9300 NW 58th Street. Enjoy some spooky water fun in the floating pumpkin patch, along with picking and decorating pumpkins, a magic show, and balloon art for a day of fun for the whole family!
