Tamarac State of the City address by Mayor Michelle Gomez. {City of Tamarac}
Dear Neighbors,
June is here, and it’s time for summer fun!
Please remember that it’s important to stay hydrated and limit your sun exposure. As dehydration can sneak up on you, always have a water bottle with you so you can drink water throughout the day. At this time of year, it doesn’t take much time in the sun to cause physical issues. So please limit your exposure, as too much sun can cause heat stroke and loss of consciousness. If you must be outside, especially during the hottest parts of the day, please try to stay in the shade. Better yet, make plans with friends and family to enjoy restaurants, indoor shopping and the movies. And of course, never EVER leave anyone or a pet in an un-airconditioned vehicle – not even for a moment!
And speaking of pets, Broward County Animal Care has just put out an urgent plea for help relieve shelter overcrowding, declaring a “911 for Pets!” With kennels full and more animals arriving daily, Animal Care is asking the public to help place pets into loving homes. Their shelter is filled with amazing pets – dogs and cats of all ages and personalities – who are just waiting for a second chance. These sweet furbabies need folks to open their hearts and homes! All shelter animals are vaccinated, sterilized, and microchipped. Adoption fees are also waived.
If you cannot adopt or foster, simply telling a friend could save a life. Here’s how you can help:
- Adopt: Give a homeless pet a forever home.
- Foster: Provide temporary care – even a few days makes a difference.
- Share this link: www.broward.org/Animal/Pages/adoptions.aspx on your social media and with friends.
To view available pets or learn more about how to get involved, visit www.broward.org/Animal/Pages/adoptions.aspx or email animalcare@broward.org.
Update on Some Traffic Concerns:
Whether through your telephone calls, emails or attending events together, thank you for sharing some safety concerns about our roadways. Here are the results of the Broward County’s Traffic Engineering team’s review of these concerns:
Location: Intersection of North Nob Hill Road (NW 100th Ave) and NW 75th/NW 76th Streets, the southern entrance/exit to Kings Point Clubhouse:
Recommendation/Action:
1. Turn Signs: The Traffic Engineering division has recently installed four (4) curve warning signs along North Nob Hill Road. Two signs face northbound traffic and the other two face southbound traffic.
2. Traffic Speed Enforcement: Based on the measured traffic speed, they are suggesting to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) that the roadway merits speed enforcement action. City of Tamarac staff will be following up with BSO.
Unfortunately, the traffic data does not meet the threshold for installing a traffic light at the intersection. Instead, Traffic Engineering is working with BSO and the City to install Radar Speed Feedback Signs along North Nob Hill Road. Broward County would design, install, maintain, and fund this project.
Location: NW 77th Street and Entrance to the Sports Complex
Action: The City is installing a new crosswalk along NW 77th Street to provide safer travel across the street to and from the park.
