HAPPY 2025!! I’m delighted to kick off another year with you and hope these next 12 months are filled with love, good health, joy, abundance, harmony, and happiness!
As the 2024 holidays are now memories, you may desire to reclaim your living space and recycle your live Christmas tree. Tamarac residents will be able to bring live Christmas trees to the Public Services Complex, 6011 Nob Hill Road, for recycling from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. now through Saturday, January 18th. Please make sure to remove all decorations and lights first! If you have curbside trash collection, you can also put your tree out with regular bulk waste. Please note that trees must be cut into sections no longer than four feet for bulk pickup.
Love classic cars and classic rock? You can enjoy both at our Rock N Ride car show and concert, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 11th, at the Tamarac Sports Complex, 9901 NW 77th Street. This free event will be fun for the whole family, with vintage vehicles, music, food trucks, and inflatable rides!
Get the year off to a healthy start with a 20/20/20 class, our first free Move with the Mayor session of 2025. Class begins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 16th, at Tamarac Park, 7501 N. University Drive. And mark your calendars now for Beat Burners, on Saturday, February 15th, at 9:30 a.m., also at Tamarac Park. Please join us from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, January 18th, as the City of Tamarac honors and celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Tamarac Park. This free family-friendly event features live entertainment, fun-filled activities, food vendors, a bounce house, music, and more.
Want to know more about how the City you live or work in operates? Well, then, it’s time to apply for the 2024 Tamarac University class to get the behind-the-scenes look! The interactive eight-week program provides opportunities to visit City facilities and learn how our wonderful city runs. As part of the 2009 TU Class, I highly recommend the course! Are you ready to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our dedicated Tamarac Fire Rescue Team? Please join TFR from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, at Fire Station 36, 7499 NW 72nd Street, for demonstrations such as: side-by-side fire sprinkler suppression; extrication, and a medical scenario, along with fire Hands Only CPR, and more! And of course – Sparky will be there!
In a time when antisemitism is on the rise, it is more important than ever that we remember the horrors of the Holocaust and renew our vow, “Never Again.” Please join me for the International Holocaust Remembrance Day community interfaith commemoration at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27th, at Temple Beth Torah Sha’aray Tzedek, 5700 NW 94th Avenue. Do you love beautiful vintage glass and porcelain? Whether you are just an admirer or an experienced collector, you won’t want to miss the 51st Annual Vintage American Glass and Pottery Show and Sale, hosted by the South Florida Depression Glass Club. Featuring Art Deco, Depression Era, and Mid-Century Modern, the show has everything from vintage elegant goblets and mid-century barware to funky ceramic cookie jars, from punch bowls to mixing bowls, and from glass lamps to glass animals! The show is Friday, January 31st, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, February 1st, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday, February 2nd, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center, 8601 West Commercial Blvd. The entrance fee is $10 for early birds on Friday from noon to 1:00 p.m. and $8 after that. Want to get the new year started with more peace and clarity? Join me for a unique experience as we use a combination of ancient practices and modern science to harmonize mind, body, and spirit using the power of sound! This free event will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 13th, at the Tamarac Community Center. Participants will be sitting and lying down on the floor during the session. Please bring a yoga mat, towel and/or pillow, or whatever else you need to be comfortable. This is a free event, but registration is required by Monday, February 10th, via email to MayorGomezEvents@Tamarac.org, with “Harmonic Healing” in the subject line. Thinking of a dog or cat (or two of each) of your own?! Well then please mark your calendar now for the 2025 Furever Friends Pet Expo, Saturday, February 22nd, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Tamarac Park. There will be various pet rescue organizations on site to introduce you to your potential new furbabies! Also, at this pet-friendly event, attendees will learn about pet CPR through a demonstration by the American Red Cross and receive a free voucher for free Rabies vaccines, microchipping, and spay/neutering from Broward County (while supplies last). Local vendors will offer on-site pet services, pet food, and one-of-a-kind products. We’re also accepting canned pet food donations for our City’s pet pantry to help residents with pets and for other charities.

- Food Truck Fridays with music and games continues on the last Friday of every month between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center.
