Dear Neighbors,
HAPPY NEW YEAR and Welcome to 2026!! Another year to make new plans, share wonderful memories, and enjoy a fantastic year together!
Let’s jump into burning some holiday calories with the following fitness schedule:

What better way is there to appreciate fine cars than with music by Johnny and the Moon Dogs, foot trucks and a kids’ zone?! Join us for this fabulous combination at our Rock ‘n Ride Concert and Car Show from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., also on Saturday, January 10th. This free event will take place at the Tamarac Sports Complex (9901 NW 77th Street) and is fun for the whole family with food trucks and inflatables as well!
On Monday, January 19th, join us for our Dr. MLK, Jr. Holiday Unity Celebration at the Tamarac Community Center Ballroom from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (8601 W. Commercial Blvd.). We will celebrate the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a great Civil Rights Leader.
Are you curious as to how the City you live or work in operates? Well, then, it’s time to apply for the 2026 Tamarac University class to get the behind-the-scenes look! The interactive eight (8) week program provides opportunities to visit City facilities and learn how our wonderful city runs. As part of the 2009 TU Class, I highly recommend the course! Applications are being accepted through 5:00 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2026. For more information call (954) 597-3900 or email TU@Tamarac.gov and to apply, visit https://www.tamarac.org/966/Tamarac-University-Application.
It is heartbreaking that antisemitism is at the highest point in history. No form of hate, discrimination and bigotry should be acceptable to anyone. It was a privilege to attend the 2025 North American Mayors Summit Against Antisemitism last month organized by the Combat Antisemitism Movement, the African American Mayors Association, the City of New Orleans, and several other organizations. Whether we were sitting side by side in our discussions or walking the second parade down New Orleans streets, people of all faiths, backgrounds and races did so together!
Now it’s time to stand together as a community and attend the International Holocaust Remembrance Day community interfaith commemoration, at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27th, at Temple Beth Torah Sha’aray Tzedek, 5700 NW 94th Avenue. A dessert reception will follow in the social hall. (Please call 954-721-7660, extension 110, to RSVP.) I remain grateful to our Tamarac Religious Coalition for their continued support.

Thinking of a dog or cat (or two of each) of your own?! Then join District 2 Commissioner Morey Wright and I for the 2026 FurEver Friends Pet Expo Saturday, February 21st, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Tamarac Park, 7501 N. University Drive. There will be various pet rescue organizations on site to introduce you to your potential new furbabies and hopefully birds! Also, at this pet friendly event, attendees will learn about pet CPR through a demonstration by the American Red Cross, and local vendors will offer on-site pet services, pet food, and one-of-a-kind products, and there will be a pet parade! We’re also accepting canned pet food donations for our City’s pet pantry to help residents with pets and for other charities. All leashed furbabies are welcome, so bring your pets and join us for a tail-wagging good time!
