The firefighters staffing Tamarac’s two newest fire trucks are starting the year with plenty of mazal.
Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac Rabbi Kopel Silberberg blessed the shiny, red, and silver vehicles as well as their occupants Wednesday at an inauguration ceremony outside City Hall.
The vehicles, a state-of-the-art Pierce Heavy Duty Rescue Pumper and a 75-foot aerial fire truck will help firefighters save lives using the latest rescue technology.
Joined by Tamarac Fire Rescue Chief Michael Annese, Mayor Michelle Gomez, City Manager Levent Sucuoglu, Vice Mayor Kicia Daniel, and Commissioners Morey Wright, Marlon Bolton, and Krystal Patterson, Silberberg prayed for the firefighters who will work in the life-saving vehicles:
“And all those who faithfully occupy themselves with the needs of the community, the Holy One, blessed be He, will pay their reward, remove from them every illness, heal their entire body, forgive all their sins, and send blessing and success to all the work of their hands,” the rabbi said.
After the ceremony, Silberberg said that a well-known Talmudic dictum – one stating that anyone who saves a life saves the whole world – applies to Tamarac’s firefighters.

“The vehicles and the people behind the vehicles are saving the world, and they deserve our blessing,” Silberberg told Tamarac Talk. “May God bless them.”
“It was a privilege to lead a prayer for the success of these vehicles and for the courageous firefighters who risk their lives daily to keep our community safe,” the rabbi wrote in a Facebook post.
According to Bolton’s Instagram page, the rescue pumper vehicle is housed at Tamarac Fire Rescue Station 36. Its features include ergonomic compartments, lots of storage space, and thousands of feet of fire hoses and battery-operated tools.
The aerial truck, housed at Tamarac Fire Rescue Station 15, boasts a cutting-edge pumping system and twice the storage capacity of current aerials, according to Bolton.

Both trucks prioritize safety with reflective designs for enhanced nighttime visibility, he said.
