Tamarac COVID-19 Update: Tamarac Crosses 4,000 Positive Case Threshold

With COVID-19 cases spiking all around the state, Tamarac Talk continues providing updates from the Florida Department of Health.

On January 14, there were 191,628 COVID-19 tests conducted in Florida. Of the test administered, 24,200 returned positive. Out of the positive cases, 16,549 were new cases. Both the number of tests administered and positive cases were the most the state has seen since last Friday when a record of 25,445 positive cases was reported.

There were 4,082 positive COVID-19 cases in Tamarac — an increase of 90 positive cases since we last updated readers on January 12. This past week, county officials announced Coral Square Mall would become the sixth vaccination site in Broward County. Residents are welcome to this location by appointment only.

Statewide in Florida, there have been 1,548,067 positive COVID-19 cases to date. Florida is one of only a handful of states in the U.S. to have recorded over 1 million COVID-19 cases, with only California and Texas registering the most cases in the country.

The average age to contract COVID-19 in Broward County on January 14 was 41-years-old. For weeks, the average age of a person contracting COVID-19 in Florida has hovered at or around 40-years-old. The positivity rate for Floridians on January 14 was 12.83-percent.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 23,799 deaths to date in Florida due to COVID-19 and a total of 67,463 patients hospitalized due to the virus.
