Tamarac Crime Update: Catalytic Converter Theft Involves Gunfire

Through our joint effort with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to share updates with the residents, this is a summary of Tamarac crime events through January 16.

Fraud -All Other

A 56-year-old female was the victim of Fraud – All Other on SW 65th St, reported on 01/12/2023. The total estimated loss was $31,245—fraud by claims of being in an intimate relationship to gain trust and launder money.

A 53-year-old male was the victim of Fraud – All Other, reported on 01/11/2023. The total estimated loss was $50,000. The victim willingly deposited funds into the suspect’s cryptocurrency account.

A victim of Fraud – All Other on Weldon Circle was reported on 01/12/2023. The total estimated loss was $9,500.

A 40-year-old male was the victim of Fraud at – Credit Card / Atm on Hiatus Road. The loss was reported on 01/14/2023. The total estimated loss was $2,316. Unknown subject(s) made an unlawful charge in the amount of $2,316.26 on the victim`s credit card without permission. The victim’s credit card appeared to be cloned.

Theft -Motor Vehicle Parts

A 52-year-old male was the victim of Theft-Motor Vehicle Parts on W Commercial Blvd, reported on 01/10/2023. The total estimated loss was $1,000. The male is reporting his white work vehicle, Nissan NV200 with a catalytic converter, was removed. 

A 45-year-old male was the victim of Theft-Motor Vehicle Parts on W Commercial Blvd, reported on 01/15/2023. The total estimated loss was $3,500. Unknown subjects took the victim’s catalytic converter. 

A 61-year-old female was the victim of Theft – Motor Vehicle Parts on Treehouse Lane. The theft was reported on 01/15/2023. The total estimated loss was $3,500. Unknown suspects removed the catalytic converter from a gray Toyota Tacoma. During the robbery, the subjects were shot at by a bystander.

Theft -All Other

A 70-year-old male was the victim of Theft – All Other on 01/10/2023. The total estimated loss was $1,794.

Burglary Conveyance

A 52-year-old male was the victim of a Burglary Conveyance on Island Club Drive. The break-in was reported on 01/11/2023. The total estimated loss was $1,375 said an unknown suspect unlawfully entered his 2021 Black Lexis GX460 and removed a black Taurus G3C 9mm firearm from the center console worth $315.

Auto Theft

A 25-year-old male was the victim of Auto Theft on West McNab Road was reported on 01/11/2023. Victim advised that an unknown subject(s) stole his 2018 Honda CRV.

Stephanie Franco

A 37-year-old female was the victim of Auto Theft on Woodlands Blvd. The theft was reported on 01/15/2023 of a 2020 white Honda Civic SI taken from the victim’s guest parking spot.

Arrests

Martin, Marc Daniel, a 30-year-old male, was arrested on a Battery – Touch Or Strike charge on NW 61st Avenue on 01/11/2023.

Scafidi, John, a 47-year-old male, was arrested on a charge of Health-Safety-Injure, Destroy, Remove/ Interfere W/ Firefighting, at 8814 W Mcnab Rd, on 01/12/2023.

Lewis, Eric Christopher, was arrested on a charge of Warrant-Felony Domestic Battery By Strangulation (no Bond), on Shakerwood Cir, on 01/12/2023.

Martinez Renderos, Francisco Antonio, a 32-year-old male, was arrested on a charge of Lewd & Lascivious Molestation on State Road 7, Tamarac, on 01/13/2023.
