Tamarac will begin upgrading all residential and commercial water meters citywide starting April 28 as part of an infrastructure modernization project expected to continue through the end of 2025.
According to the city, the initiative replaces existing meters with advanced smart technology designed to deliver more accurate billing, real-time usage monitoring, and automatic leak detection. Residents can track daily water consumption through an app or online portal and receive alerts for unusual usage to help avoid costly damage and conserve water.
The installations, conducted by HST Utility, will occur on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Most meters are outdoors and can be replaced without residents being home. The process typically takes 20–30 minutes and will temporarily interrupt water service, according to the city,
There is no cost to property owners, and no plumbing changes are required unless issues are found with existing valves or connections. Businesses will be contacted directly to coordinate installation times.
Smaller meters (1″ to 1.5″) will be installed in May and June, followed by larger meters (2″ to 3″) between August and October. All installations are expected to be completed by November 3.
Participation is mandatory for all Tamarac water customers. For questions or concerns, call HST Utility at 888-668-9118.
