Tamarac Mayor Michelle J. Gomez {City of Tamarac}
Michelle J. Gomez has been recognized with a 2026 Home Rule Hero Award by the Florida League of Cities for the second consecutive year, honoring her advocacy efforts during the 2026 Legislative Session.
The award recognizes local government officials who work with state lawmakers to promote “local voices making local choices” and advocate for home rule, which allows cities to address local issues with minimal state interference.
According to the Florida League of Cities, Gomez helped elevate the perspective of municipalities by sharing local data, insights and real-world examples with legislators throughout the session.
“Local voices matter, and during the 2026 Legislative Session, these leaders made sure those voices were heard,” said Casey Cook, the league’s chief of legislative affairs, in a statement.
Gomez said she was honored to receive the award again and remain an advocate for Tamarac residents and businesses.
“It remains a privilege advocating for Tamarac residents and businesses, and working with the Florida League of Cities so that Tallahassee hears our voices,” Gomez said.
Gomez has served as Tamarac mayor since 2018 after previously serving as the city’s District 2 commissioner and vice mayor. She also serves on numerous county boards and committees, including the Broward County Affordable Housing Advisory Committee and Broward County Planning Council.
