Dean Robert Garvin {BSO}
A Tamarac man who admitted to possessing hundreds of printed child pornography images and was later found with more than 1,000 images has been arrested for allegedly violating the terms of his sex offender probation.
According to Broward County Sheriff’s Office records, Dean Robert Garvin, 76, was taken into custody on a Broward County warrant alleging he violated a condition of his probation requiring continuous electronic monitoring.
County court records indicaeGarvin was sentenced to five years of sex offender probation after being convicted on multiple counts of possession of child pornography and one count of computer pornography in late 2025.
According to the violation affidavit, Garvin’s probation officer alleges he triggered a series of “bracelet gone” alarms during the early morning hours of June 8 after removing or separating himself from his GPS monitoring device multiple times. The affidavit also alleges he left Broward County without permission on June 16, triggering several alerts indicating he had entered Palm Beach County.
Garvin’s underlying criminal case was among the more unusual and disturbing investigations handled by Broward authorities in recent years.
According to a Broward Sheriff’s Office probable cause affidavit filed in September 2025, investigators with the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children after Microsoft detected suspected child sexual abuse material being searched through its Bing image platform. The investigation ultimately led detectives to Garvin’s Tamarac home.
Detectives wrote that Garvin consented to a search of his residence and allegedly admitted he had been viewing child pornography since his wife died years earlier. Garvin allegedly told detectives he “had a whole lot of pictures” before revealing that he had printed hundreds, if not thousands, of images, which he neatly organized.
According to the affidavit, investigators found numerous folders labeled with descriptions such as “mom son,” “mom daughter,” and “animals,” and Garvin allegedly estimated that he possessed “hundreds” of printed images.
In some materials, children ranging from infants to age 12 were depicted engaging in sexual acts, sometimes with animals.
After obtaining a search warrant, investigators said they recovered more than 1,000 printed images depicting child sexual abuse material, including images involving infants, bondage, and sexual acts with animals.
Garvin was arrested and transported to the Broward County Jail.
