Residents are invited to meet Capt. David Franks, the newly appointed Broward Sheriff’s Office Tamarac District chief, during a community reception at City Hall on Sept. 10.
The event begins at 6 p.m. at Tamarac City Hall, 7525 NW 88th Ave., and will feature light refreshments. The regular City Commission meeting will follow immediately afterward.
Franks, who officially assumes command of the Tamarac District on Sept. 6, brings nearly three decades of law enforcement experience, including 17 years in supervisory roles. He began his career in 1997 as a patrol officer with the Miami Springs Police Department before joining BSO’s Tamarac District in 2001 as a deputy sheriff and tactical team member.
Over the years, Franks advanced through several leadership posts. In 2018, he was named executive officer of BSO’s South Broward District and later served in the Pompano Beach District, where he oversaw patrol and criminal investigations. While in Pompano Beach, he helped launch the “Walk-Away” program, aimed at preventing drug overdoses, and the CORE Team, which focused on high-crime areas and citizen engagement.
Most recently, he served as area captain and assistant chief in Pompano Beach, directing district operations and coordinating law enforcement strategies. He holds a master’s degree in executive leadership from Liberty University.
Franks replaces Interim Capt. Christopher Palamara, who filled the role after Capt. Jemeriah Cooper was demoted earlier this year following a homicide investigation.
The city said the reception will give residents an opportunity to welcome Franks and learn more about his vision for community safety.
