While we’re on vacation, here is a blast from Tamarac’s past dated 1977, courtesy of the Tamarac Historical Society.
Before the proposal for a charter school this past year, parents really didn’t have the numerous high schools nearby to choose from, and were asked to bus their children 11 miles away. This was well before J.P. Taravella High School would be built in 1981.
Parents got together and agreed to file a class action lawsuit against the school board who wanted to bus 190 Tamarac and North Lauderdale ninth graders to Ely High School. The children were attending Coral Springs Middle School, but the school board said it was overcrowded. This articles were the Sun Sentinel and the photo was from the Broward Times.
