J.P. Taravella High School has had mixed results heading into the new year in athletics.
Basketball
The boys basketball team is coming off a win against Coral Springs Charter 58-48. The Trojans improved to 4-4 and have wins over Plantation, Piper, and West Broward High School. They are led this year by Santana Henderson III in points, while Nick Florea is also averaging in double figures. The Panthers are now 5-3 this year and beat Pompano Beach High School twice, along with Boyton Beach, Franklin Academy, and Oxbridge Academy.
They will play Barron Collier High School in their final game before the new year on December 27 at the Holiday Hoppfest at Bishop Verot starting at 5:20 p.m.
The girls basketball team has their wins against Piper and Everglades High School, with Sarah Zouaghi leading the team in scoring. The Trojans have six seniors averaging at least three points per game, with Brianna Whittaker, Ke’Shell Gilbert, Chloe Ledan, Willyana Jaques, and Danielle Duncanson.
JPT will play Pompano Beach High School in their next game on January 7 at 6 p.m.
Soccer
In soccer, the boys team is 1-5 this year, with their only win coming against McArthur High School in their first game. They were shut out three times and scored five total goals in losses against Coral Glades and Deerfield Beach High School.
The girls soccer team, though, is 5-3 and outscored Piper, McArthur, Plantation, Chaminne Madonna, and Deerfield Beach High School 25-3 in their victories. They will play Monarch High School in their first game of the new year before both teams face off against Coral Springs High School on January 9.
