Marthe Cohn, a 96-year-old Holocaust survivor and former spy in World War II will speak and sign her memoir on January 16, in Coral Springs.
Cohn was born in France in 1920 and as the Nazi Occupation escalated, her sister was sent to Auschwitz while her family fled to the south of France. At the age of 24, she joined the Intelligence Service of the French Army. Utilizing her perfect German accent and Aryan looks, Cohn posed as a German nurse desperately trying to attain word of a fictional fiancé. She traveled the countryside and approached troops sympathetic to her plight thereby obtaining vital information about troop movements for the Allied commanders. For her service, at the age of 80, she was awarded the Croix de Guerre, France’s highest military honor.
She will be speaking about her book about her experience “Behind Enemy Lines: The True Story of a French Jewish Spy in Nazi Germany” at the Chabad of Coral Springs 3925 N. University Dr. 33065 on Monday, January 16 at 7:00 pm. $10 in advance $15 at the door. Tamarac residents welcome. For tickets or more information visit Coral Springs Chabad.
