A pair of former J.P. Taravella graduates and teammates shared a Conference Championship playing baseball with Florida Gulf Coast University.
Vincent Samuel, a 2022 graduate from J.P. Taravella, was the starting third baseman during the early part of the season. He recorded his first Division I home run against the University of South Florida and a walk-off hit against Florida Atlantic University.
Samuel played two years with J.P. Taravella and hit .323 with six home runs and 45 RBIs. He also had 16 doubles and one triple before starting his college career at Indian River State College, where he homered five times and drove in 41 runs while hitting .339.
E.J. Burns graduated from J.P. Taravella and redshirted this year, granting him an extra year of eligibility. He finished his high school career with a .299 batting average, hitting four home runs and driving in 47 runs. Burns also pitched and went 10-4 and had an ERA of 2.64.
Despite sharing the title, the Eagles were left out of the NCAA Tournament after the Ablation Cup granted Stetson the automatic bid. FGCU needed to beat Stetson twice on May 24 and won a rain-shortened game before the final matchup was canceled.
