Challenger Elementary School plans to use a donation of District 2 Funds from Tamarac Commissioner Morey Wright to expand academic support for students through its Extended Learning Opportunities program.
“Challenger will be using the donation from Commissioner Wright for our ELO (Extended Learning Opportunities),” Principal Tara C. Zdanowicz said. “We have students who need extra support in math, reading, and science.”
According to the principal, the funds will be used to pay teachers $25 per hour to provide targeted instruction designed to help students improve in areas where they are academically deficient. Educators will rely on the most recent FAST 2 assessment data to identify students in need of intervention and tailor instruction to address specific learning gaps.
The Extended Learning Opportunities program is intended to provide students with additional time and focused support outside regular classroom instruction, helping them strengthen foundational skills and improve academic performance.
The additional funding will allow staff to expand services and reach more students who would benefit from extra academic assistance, according to the principal.
According to Wright, the donation is from developer funds to District 2, and no taxpayer dollars were used.
