A Tamarac woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Lauderhill Saturday, leading to the accused driver’s arrest, police said.

The vehicular killing happened around 3:30 a.m. as victim Gillian Robinson, 53, of Tamarac, was attempting to cross State Road 7 near Northwest 12th Street, according to the Lauderhill Police Department.

The accused hit-and-run driver, Ashlee Washington, 23, of Miami, was traveling north on State Road 7 in a red 2018 Chevrolet Cruz when she allegedly struck Robinson and kept on driving, according to police.

The hit-and-run motorist was gone by the time rescuers arrived.

Paramedics rushed Robinson to Broward Health Medical Center, where doctors pronounced her dead.

Authorities said speed appeared to be a factor in the fatal crash, but it was not clear exactly how fast Washington was driving.

Police used undisclosed investigative methods to track the accused driver down and arrest her.

Washington is charged with failure to stop or remain at an accident resulting in a death and tampering with or fabricating evidence, court records show.

She was booked into the Broward Main Jail, where authorities were holding her on a $101,000 bond.
