HCA Florida Woodmont Hospital has opened a new $12 million state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory to serve the residents of northwest Broward. The first patient was treated on October 1.
This new lab is a specialized area where physicians use minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat heart conditions. By threading a thin, flexible tube called a catheter through blood vessels to the heart, physicians can identify blockages, restore blood flow, and perform life-saving interventions without the need for open-heart surgery, according to Daniel Santiago, the laboratory manager and a registered nurse.
He said, “This lab is amazing, and it allows us to provide better care for the community.”
The new lab is part of a larger $60 million investment to modernize the hospital campus and enhance capabilities. The main lobby was renovated, a new cafeteria was built, and patient rooms were improved, according to Morgan Taylor, the hospital’s spokesperson.
Cory Mead, CEO of HCA Florida Woodmont Hospital, is proud of the new lab. “By expanding our capabilities at the hospital, we are strengthening our ability to provide comprehensive, coordinated cardiac care across the region,” said Mead.
The new lab will be led by medical director Dr. Mohamed Osman, who has more than 20 years of experience as a cardiologist and a proven track record of clinical excellence, according to Mead.
