A Lauderhill restaurant was forced to shut down after inspectors uncovered multiple health violations, including roach activity.
Blended Family Foods – located within the Inverness Plaza at 5534 West Oakland Park Boulevard – was ordered to shut down on March 5 after a recent inspection by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services uncovered a roach infestation, food safety violations, and an expired business license.
According to the inspection report, inspectors cited the restaurant for nine violations, including live and dead roaches throughout the kitchen. Inspectors observed live roaches on the floor next to a chest freezer falling from an out-of-use reach-in cooler.
Inspectors also noted in the report that they found dead roaches near the three-compartment sink, dead cockroaches on the floor near the chest freezer, and two dead roaches next to a glass reach-in cooler.
In addition to roach activity, inspectors noted in the report that flying insects were present in multiple areas, including the front counter and kitchen. They also reported food safety violations, including improperly labeled ready-to-eat food stored beyond 24 hours without a proper date mark.
Inspectors closed the report by noting that Blended Family Foods was found to be operating with an expired license from the Division of Hotels and Restaurants.
A follow-up inspection later that day found that the pest problem had not been resolved. Inspectors observed more live roaches crawling under a chest freezer and in the front of the kitchen.
As a result, the restaurant was ordered to remain closed until it passed a re-inspection and met state health and safety standards.
