Kalalou Caribbean Bar & Grill was ordered closed after a Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation inspection uncovered 21 health-code violations.
A July 30 inspection reported over 50 rodent droppings along the back-kitchen dry-storage wall and over 100 flies on clean dishes, shelves, and floors of the restaurant, located at 7041 West Commercial Boulevard.
Additionally, a stop-sale was issued on vacuum-sealed salmon found thawed inside the walk-in cooler while still in its reduced-oxygen package, a practice health officials say can encourage the growth of deadly botulism.
Basic sanitation also failed the inspection test. The hand-wash sink in the ware-washing area had no running water, making it impossible for employees to wash their hands.
This is the restaurant’s second shutdown in less than a year. In November, Kalalou was forced to close after inspectors found 14 violations, including live and dead roaches throughout the kitchen and food-storage areas.
Kalalou must remain closed until every violation is corrected and they pass a follow-up inspection.
