A Lauderhill woman was struck and killed by a car Monday while trying to walk across State Road 7 authorities said.
According to Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit detectives, Silmene Louizaire, 64, was hit by a 2015 Honda Accord around 4 p.m. in the 4100 block of North State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes.
A preliminary investigation by BSO found that the Accord’s driver, Joshua Nordelus, 18, of Coral Springs, was driving north in the center lane of State Road 7 near Northwest 41st Street when Louizaire walked into the path of the Honda, detectives said.
The front passenger side of the car struck Louizaire, who had tried to cross the road just north of a designated crosswalk, according to BSO.
Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue rushed to the scene of the crash and pronounced Louizaire dead.
Nordelus remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, detectives said.
According to investigators, neither driver impairment nor speeding are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
