Mah Jongg, the Chinese tile game with historic and cultural ties to America’s Jewish and Asian communities, will be the focus of an upcoming program at Temple Beth Torah Sha’aray Tzedek in Tamarac.
FAU Lifelong Learning lecturer Helene Herman is scheduled to present “Mah Jongg Madness” on Sunday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. at the synagogue, 5700 NW 94th Ave.
The talk will explore Mah Jongg’s origins in medieval China, its rise as a global phenomenon in the 20th century, and its enduring connection to Jewish women in the United States. The program will also examine the game’s current revival, described by organizers as an intergenerational and cross-cultural resurgence.
The cost is $10 for non-members. Advance registration is required through the synagogue website, by emailing erica@tbtst.org, or by calling 954-721-7660.
