Nessa Schorr, an 11th-grade student at Millennium 6–12 Collegiate Academy and the Junior Class President, set out to make this year’s Candy Cane Lane celebration bigger and more meaningful than ever before.
With a vision to spread holiday joy beyond the school campus and into the greater community, Nessa sought to transform the event into a true citywide celebration.
Working alongside her class sponsor, Alexandra Pushkin, and the Class of 2027 board, Nessa and the student leaders joined forces to bring their idea to life. The group reached out to Tamarac Mayor Michelle Gomez to share their vision for a festive, inclusive event that would unite families, students, and residents during the holiday season.
After meeting with the students and hearing their plans, Mayor Gomez immediately embraced the initiative and committed to supporting it. Her enthusiasm and guidance helped elevate Candy Cane Lane into a large-scale community event that reflected the spirit of collaboration and holiday cheer.
The event was held on Saturday, December 13, at the Tamarac Amphitheater Village and featured food trucks, local vendors, and lively performances by the school’s choir, band, and dance club. The celebration drew an estimated 300–350 attendees, filling the venue with music, laughter, and festive spirit.
Due to the overwhelming success of the event, Mayor Gomez has already expressed interest in beginning planning for next year’s Candy Cane Lane as soon as possible. The Class of 2027 is deeply appreciative of Mayor Michelle Gomez for her leadership, support, and guidance throughout the planning and execution of the event.
Students were especially proud and inspired to see their ideas embraced by city leadership and thrilled to work alongside Mayor Gomez to create a memorable experience for the Tamarac community.
