Andrzej Turowski {BSO}
A man was arrested after police say he broke into his upstairs neighbor’s apartment wearing only underwear and pepper-sprayed him in the face while he slept.
According to a Lauderhill Police Department affidavit, on June 21, officers responded to the scene at an apartment complex located near the 4700 block of 22nd Court. Upon arrival, officers encountered a distressed victim with irritation to his face. The victim reported he had been attacked by a neighbor he identified as Andrzej Turowski, 71, of Lauderhill, a resident of the unit directly below him.
The victim told officers he was taking a nap when loud banging at his front door startled him awake. By the time he opened his eyes, Turowski, described as wearing no shirt and no pants, was hovering over him and sprayed him directly in the face with what was later confirmed to be pepper spray.
The victim immediately experienced severe burning in his eyes and told police he feared for his life during the attack. He refused transport to a medical facility but was treated at the scene by Lauderhill Fire Rescue. Officers on the scene reported feeling irritation consistent with pepper spray lingering in the bedroom air.
Turowski, who has a history of noise complaints against his upstairs neighbor, initially denied entering the apartment or using pepper spray. However, police noted two canisters of pepper spray by the front door of his unit – one appearing to have been recently used, with residue on the nozzle.
Officers also reported that Turowski was wearing no pants or shirt when they arrived, which matched the victim’s account.
Further questioning led to Turowski admitting he had ongoing issues with his neighbor and stated that if officers failed to help him stop the noise, he would “hurt him and possibly use a gun.”
Turowski was arrested and charged with burglary with assault or battery.. He was transferred to the Broward County Main Jail.
