Dear Neighbors
July brings lots of great summer fun, from splashing water in the pool to flashing fireworks in the sky. We hope to see you at more of our great outdoor events, but please keep the following safety reminders in mind:
The use of firecrackers and fireworks before or AFTER Independence Day is illegal and dangerous. Please be considerate of Combat Veterans, neighbors suffering from medical conditions, pets, and wildlife. Report the illegal use of fireworks to BSO at their non-emergency line: (954) 764-4357.
To all Tamarac Women Veterans, please join me at The View at Colony West for lunch to celebrate you and your dedication to our country! The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12. Please RSVP by Monday, July 1, via email to MayorGomezEvents@Tamarac.org or call 954-597-3460 during office hours or 954-263-1918 after hours.
Monday, July 1, also marks the start of early registration for the Community Garage Sale, to be held on October 5. The discounted early registration fee is only $25.00 per space. After September 23, the fee increases to $40.00 per space. Visit Tamarac Park, 7501 N. University Drive, or www.Tamarac.me/Webtrac to register. It’s a great opportunity to turn your unwanted items into some extra cash!
Tamarac’s fantastic Independence Day festivities will start with our Patriotic Splash on Thursday, July 4, from noon to 3:00 p.m. at the Caporella Aquatic Center, 9300 NW 58th Street. It’s a great way to celebrate the holiday while staying cool in the pool. Enjoy swimming, music, and kids’ arts and crafts. Admission is $5.00 per person.
Then please join us that evening for our annual All-American Celebration, marking the U.S.A.’s 248th birthday, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Tamarac Sports Complex, 9901 NW 77th Street. The fun begins with a free outdoor concert featuring “The Jam Band,” a kid’s area with inflatables, face painting, arts & crafts, and food trucks, and then concludes with a spectacular choreographed firework display starting at 9 p.m. sharp.
Come get your move on at July’s free Move with the Mayor class! This month, we’re offering our Power Circuit training at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, at the Tamarac Community Center, 8601 W. Commercial Blvd. Mark your calendars now for our August Zumba class, which will be offered at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 9, at Tamarac Park. Zumba is so much fun you almost don’t notice you’re exercising! Hope you can join me.
Also, on the 13th, the Tamarac Historical Society is marking its 15th anniversary by giving back to our City with a celebration from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center Ballroom. The first 100 attendees will receive a special anniversary gift! There will also be raffle prizes and other surprises.
Do you love to dance? Or have you always wanted to learn how? Here’s your chance! As we had so much fun learning the Bachata last month with YC Dance Studios, please join Commissioner Elvin Villalobos and me for the rest of our free professional dance lesson series: Merengue on July 19 and Salsa on August 16, each at 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center. Come by yourself or with your favorite dance partner! Make sure you’re saving Saturday, September 14, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to show off your moves at our free Hispanic Heritage Month dance party, also at the Tamarac Community Center.
Already looking forward to cooler weather and the holiday season? Come enjoy the Summer Splash with Santa on July 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Caporella Aquatic Center, with games, crafts, and more for the entire family! And plan now on attending our Back to School Splash on August 3. Admission is $5.00 per person.
It is a pleasure to host the Simply Healthcare Broward County Senior Health and Wellness Tour event on July 30 from 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center. Please come and enjoy this free event, which includes an “Ask The Doctor” session, a juicing demonstration, and healthy snacks.
