J.P. Taravella’s new band director is holding “Dessert with the Director” on Tuesday.
A graduate of Florida State University’s College of Music has joined the faculty at J.P. Taravella High School and will discuss plans for 2021-2022 over dessert on Tuesday night.
Jonathan Cooper is a former section and row leader of the trumpet section at his alma mater, where he majored in music education and graduated magna cum laude.
A proud alumnus of Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, which received the Jim Ott High Brass Award in 2019, Cooper recently completed his student teaching internship at Vero Beach High School.
He is a member of the Professional Development Conference & All-State Concerts, Florida Band Association, and the National Association from Music Education.
The ‘Dessert With The Director’ event is a chance to learn more about Cooper’s plans for the upcoming marching band and concert season at J.P. Taravella.
The event is from 7 p.m. and should take about an hour.
Band families are encouraged to attend, as the JPT Band and Orchestra Program travels throughout the state, participating in performance assessments, and these trips are never cheap.
The JPT band is currently looking for corporate sponsorships, a topic on the dessert menu this Tuesday night.
As new band director, Cooper will also be discussing the next band camp, held at Taravella in the first two weeks of August.
The JPT band website has an updated calendar that gives band camp dates of August 2 – 6 from 4 p,m to 9 p.m. and August 9 – 13 from 9 p.m. to 8 p.m.
J.P. Taravella is located at 10600 Riverside Drive in Coral Springs.
