Sophomore Nessa Schorr, who currently attends Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy, recently took a heartfelt trip back to her roots.
She participated in a family night event at her former elementary school, Riverside Elementary, where she introduced and promoted her meaningful service project, Links to Life.
Nessa, now in her second year of high school, created “Links to Life” as a way to raise awareness about cancer and support those affected by the disease. The project centers on handcrafted keychains made with colorful beads and symbolic links — each one representing a step in the fight against cancer.
“I wanted to come back to where it all started,” said Nessa. “This school was like a second home, and I thought it would be the perfect place to share this project and give back.”
The keychains are sold to raise proceeds, all of which are donated directly to the American Cancer Society. With a blend of creativity and compassion, Nessa hopes her project will not only raise funds but also spark conversations about cancer prevention and support.
Faculty, families, and former teachers praised Nessa for her dedication and spirit. Her return to the school was a reminder that even the smallest efforts, when driven by passion and a sense of purpose, can create a lasting impact.
