During a routine patrol, an officer from the Lauderhill Police Department intervened in an ongoing aggravated assault where a woman armed with a red baseball bat was threatening a driver.
According to LPD records, an officer on patrol encountered a chaotic scene involving two parked cars near the 5200 block of Northwest 15th Court.
The officer – who was traveling northbound on Northwest 52nd Avenue – observed a woman, later identified as Kimberly Yharbrough, 31, of Lauderhill, and the victim in the middle of the roadway, engaged in a heated argument that appeared to stem from an alleged traffic crash.
Arrest records show Yharbrough was witnessed by the officer standing with a red baseball bat raised over her left shoulder as if she were preparing to swing it at the other driver, who was only three feet away from her at the time.
The officer indicated in his report that he exited his patrol vehicle and commanded Yharbrough to drop the bat, to which she complied, placing the bat through the driver’s window of her car.
Upon questioning, the report shows that Yharbrough claimed to officers that she only retrieved the bat because the victim attempted to leave the crash scene. However, she did not request a traffic crash report.
The victim denied to the officer that any traffic crash had occurred and expressed a desire to prosecute for the aggravated assault.
The victim, fearing for his life, told the officer that had he not arrived when he did, she would have been struck with the bat.
The LPD report indicates no additional witnesses or surveillance footage were found on the scene, but the officer’s body-worn camera footage corroborated the events as described.
Yharbrough was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. She was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
She now faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
