Finding a forever home is no small feat for some shelter pets, and two of the Humane Society of Broward County’s most deserving residents hope to capture local families’ hearts.
Meet Karla
Karla is a 2-year-old, 49-pound canine with a heart full of love and plenty of personality to share. She was transferred to the Humane Society from Madison County after Hurricane Helene. Despite her friendly demeanor and affectionate nature, Karla is sadly being overlooked by adopters.
This playful girl is a pro on a leash, adores treats, and can’t get enough belly rubs and pets. She’s curious and loves toys but might also try to curl up in your lap for some extra snuggles. Karla has tested positive for heartworms, a condition spread by infected mosquitos.
While the diagnosis can be daunting, it’s important to note that heartworms are not contagious to people or other animals. Thankfully, the shelter is covering the cost of her treatment to ensure she can live a long and healthy life.
Karla’s compatibility with other pets is unknown, so a meet-and-greet is recommended for families with dogs.
Meet Katy Perry
This 3-year-old feline diva is as charming as her pop star namesake. Katy Perry came to the shelter after a kind family tried to rescue her but couldn’t keep her because their dog was afraid of her. Now, Katy Perry is searching for a forever home where she can shine.
Initially shy in new spaces, Katy Perry quickly warms up and becomes a curious, affectionate companion. She enjoys curling up in bed with her humans and might even reward you with a kiss. While she’s a bit timid around other cats, she’s shown curiosity about dogs. With a scratching post or two, Katy Perry will happily settle into her new home.
How to Adopt
If Karla (ID 689022) or Katy Perry (ID 689881) sounds like the perfect addition to your family, the Humane Society of Broward County invites you to visit and meet them in person. There are plenty of other pets looking for homes this week, too. The adoption kennels are open daily at 11 a.m.; no appointments are necessary.
