Sunshine Bistros was ordered to shut down after Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation inspectors found a variety of health violations, including evidence of roach activity and improper food handling.
According to a May 14 inspection report, Sunshine Bistros, located at 1619 North State Road 7, was cited for a total of nine violations, with several classified as high priority.
Inspectors reported finding live roaches in the kitchen area, including beneath a prep table and near a mop sink. The report notes that a restaurant staff member killed the insects and began sanitizing the area during the inspection.
In addition to the roach issues, the restaurant was cited for unsanitary kitchen equipment. The interior of a microwave was found with a buildup of black grease, food debris, and other residue.
Food safety concerns were also flagged in the report. The inspection report cited examples of food being cooled using non-approved methods. Items like pickles and cooked chicken sauce were found cooling at unsafe temperatures.
The report indicates that the operator moved the food into the freezer to expedite the cooling process during the inspection.
Sunshine Bistros will be required to correct the violations and pass a re-inspection before reopening to the public.
