Developers will pay higher impact fees for future projects.
During the October 8 meeting, the commission approved an ordinance known as “New Development Impact Fees” of the Tamarac City Code on first reading.
This ordinance amends the impact fee schedule and land use categories, providing for an increase to the current impact fee rate of 25 percent for government, parks and recreation, and multi-modal transportation. There will be updated guidelines for the phasing of impact fee increases, processing of refunds, and fair share agreements relative to the city’s impact fee program.
The City of Tamarac continues to experience significant population and development growth as indicated in the most recent census data. As a result, the city’s capital expenditure has steadily increased year after year. With mounting costs due to inflation and increased demands for public infrastructure, the city must continue to assess and collect development impact fees to help defray the cost of providing expanded public infrastructure, systems, and services, according to city information.
The Tamarac staff conducted preliminary research to develop a scope of work for an update to the city’s Impact fee study. A request for proposals from firms with experience in developing impact fee studies was formally advertised as required by the city’s procurement guidelines. The city received responses from three firms, and then retained TischlerBise, Inc., according to city information.
The company completed an updated study and development impact fee recommendations for government, parks and recreation, and multi-modal transportation facilities. The city administration wants to move forward with adopting the Impact fee rate study conducted by TischlerBise, Inc. and implementing fee increases, according to city information.
