Tamarac COVID-19 Update: Florida Positivity Rate Nears 2021 High

With COVID-19 cases spiking all around the state, Tamarac Talk continues providing updates from the Florida Department of Health.

On January 19, there were 129,412 COVID-19 tests conducted in Florida. Of the test administered, 17,112 returned positive. Out of the positive cases, 11,615 were new cases.

This is the most new cases Florida has seen since January 15, when the state recorded over 16,000.

There were 4,224 positive COVID-19 cases in the City of Tamarac — an increase of 54 positive cases since January 18. Recently, county officials announced Coral Square Mall would become the sixth vaccination site in Broward County. Residents are welcome to this location by appointment only.

Statewide in Florida, there have been 1,601,011 positive COVID-19 cases to date. Florida is one of only a handful of states in the U.S. to have recorded over 1 million COVID-19 cases, with only California and Texas registering the most cases in the country.

The average age to contract COVID-19 in Broward County on January 19 was 41-years-old. For months, the average age of a person contracting COVID-19 in Florida has hovered at or around 40-years-old.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 24,578 deaths to date in Florida due to COVID-19 and a total of 68,932 patients hospitalized due to the virus.
