A 28-year-old man reported missing over the weekend has been identified as the person authorities found dead Monday inside a car submerged in a Tamarac canal.
Broward Sheriff’s Office divers discovered Rondell Edwards, a Tamarac father, inside a 2003 Toyota Highlander SUV, authorities said Tuesday.
A preliminary investigation revealed that, for unknown reasons, the SUV went off the road on Southgate Boulevard, entered the grass swale, and continued northbound toward the canal, according to BSO. The SUV then entered the canal at North University Drive and Southgate Boulevard and became fully submerged, authorities said.
Edwards was reported missing to BSO on Saturday, Jan. 6. BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances and the timing of the fatal crash.
BSO and other local police and fire rescue agencies responded to the scene after noon on Monday when Broward County Regional Communications received a report of a vehicle in the canal.

Edwards and the SUV were pulled from the canal, authorities said.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, Edwards’ wife, Anyssa, called him “an amazing father and an amazing husband.”
“I really can’t believe it,” she wrote. “I love you so much. I’m gonna be strong for the girls. I know that’s what you would want me to do. But [right now] this is the hardest thing in the world … I love you and watch over us.”
