Tamarac will host a candlelight vigil on Tuesday for the three city residents slain in a triple homicide earlier this week.
Mary Gingles, 34, along with her father, David Ponzer, 64, and her neighbor, Andrew Ferrin, 36, was fatally shot on Feb. 16 by her estranged husband, Nathan Gingles, 43, who kidnapped his four-year-old daughter, during the killing spree, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The child was unhurt.
Nathan Gingles was charged with three counts of murder as well as kidnapping, child neglect, and other crimes. He is being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail.
At the time of the killings, there was a court injunction in place barring Nathan Gingles from contact with Mary Gingles and their shared daughter, Seraphina Gingles, authorities said.
In response to the killings, Tamarac city officials Friday said they would come together to honor the victims and help comfort their loved ones at Tuesday’s candlelight vigil.
The vigil will be held at 7 p.m. at Tamarac City Hall, 7525 Northwest 88th Ave. All community members are invited to attend.
“This gathering will offer a space for healing, unity, and remembrance,” Tamarac spokesperson Joanna Johnson said in a written invitation.
Tamarac city commission members will attend the vigil and share “messages of support and strength alongside faith leaders from various religious organizations, who will provide spiritual guidance and comfort,” Johnson said.
Community members in need of counseling can contact the city for guidance in finding local support services, including grief counseling, crisis intervention, and other assistance programs.
At a press conference Wednesday, Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony said a preliminary investigation showed a “shortcoming of performance” by deputies who could have intervened amid Gingles’ ongoing domestic violence against his estranged wife in October and December – an intervention that could have potentially prevented the killings.
“It is clear … we fell short on this one,” Tony said.
Seven BSO deputies, including a lieutenant and two sergeants, have been suspended with pay in connection with the case.
