A Tamarac man was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, and domestic battery by strangulation, after a victim escaped his home and reported his crimes.
According to Broward County Sheriff’s Office records, on July 10, a woman walked into the Tamarac District Office to report a harrowing domestic abuse incident in which she was held at gunpoint against her will.
The victim told law enforcement the incident occurred on July 9 at a residence near the 5800 block of Woodland Pointe Drive belonging to a man, later identified as Cadane Forrester, 33, of Tamarac.
The victim, who recently moved into Forrester’s residence about a week ago, stated that she returned home from school to find Forrester enraged after going through her cell phone and discovering messages he did not like.
BSO records show the situation escalated when Forrester began yelling and threatening her life before grabbing a black pocket knife, holding it to her arm, and questioning her about the people in her phone.
The victim claims he then proceeded to physically assault her, punching her in the arms and slapping her face, causing her to fall onto the bed. The assault continued as Forrester grabbed her by the neck with both hands, making it difficult for her to breathe.
According to arrest records, the victim recounted how Forrester then retrieved a small black handgun from a bag, held it to her neck, and threatened to kill her. After a period of rage, Forrester eventually calmed down, and the two went to sleep.
The following morning, when the victim attempted to leave for work, Forrester confiscated her keys and phone, preventing her from leaving the residence all day.
On the morning of July 10, the victim told law enforcement she managed to leave the house while Forrester was still asleep, telling him she was going to work. Instead, she drove to the BSO Tamarac District Office to report the incident.
Upon investigation, deputies observed large bruises on both of the victim’s biceps and a bruise on her left inner knee, consistent with her account of the assault.
While reporting the incident, the victim told deputies that Forrester had been texting and calling her all morning, threatening to dispose of her belongings in a storage unit if she did not answer his calls.
Deputies located Forrester at the Extra Space Storage in Tamarac at 5602 Rock Island Road. He was taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $12,000 bond.
