Tamarac resident Simone Atkinson has been named Holy Cross Health’s 2025 Leader of the Year, earning top honors for her service, innovation, and leadership within the Fort Lauderdale-based health system.
“Our Annual Recognition Ceremony is a momentous occasion where we come together as a unified health care family to celebrate the extraordinary people who make our Mission possible every single day,” said Rachel Thompson, Chief Human Resources Officer at Holy Cross Health.
Atkinson, DNP, MBA, RN, CCRN, SCRN, NEA-BC, serves as an inpatient nurse manager and is recognized as a driving force behind major clinical and operational improvements. Known for her calm presence, precision, and ability to coordinate large-scale initiatives, she was singled out for her work in improving clinical outcomes, expanding nursing education opportunities, and increasing nurse engagement.
Atkinson is described as a “quietly powerful” and “relentlessly dedicated” leader whose influence is felt across the hospital.
Atkinson has gone so far as to study multiple languages to better communicate with patients and colleagues. She also mentors nurses pursuing advanced degrees, teaches at a local nursing school and plays a key role in onboarding new leaders.
Her recognition highlighted a standout year for employee honors at Holy Cross Health, which also named Boca Raton resident Brandon Charette as Director of the Year and Fort Lauderdale resident Teresa Ables as Colleague of the Year.
Thompson said the awards reflect the strength and dedication of the system’s workforce.
“These three individuals embody our values, inspire their teams, and elevate the care we provide to our patients and communities,” Thompson said. “They are quiet heroes and visionary leaders who bring heart to health care.”
