A woman was arrested on multiple charges, including battery on a senior citizen and misuse of the 911 system, following a volatile encounter at a Tamarac leasing office.
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, on March 28, deputies responded to the Sun Vista Apartments Leasing Office located at 5700 Rock Island Road after a battery was reported.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the property manager, who alleged he was struck by a resident, later identified as Britney Lewis, 25, of Tamarac.
The report indicated that the manager claimed Lewis had entered the office demanding a gate access code. When told that the information couldn’t be provided and that there was a process to gain entry, Lewis became irate.
The manager told deputies that Lewis called 911 from the lobby, where she could be heard telling dispatchers she feared for her safety because people were being rude to her. While still on the phone, she walked behind the front desk and took a white binder containing sensitive company information such as vendor details and passwords.
When the property manager attempted to retrieve the binder, Lewis slapped him, knocking off his reading glasses. A brief struggle ensued, and Lewis allegedly continued assaulting the man.
After the physical altercation, Lewis’ sister took the binder and returned it to the office. While the manager was reporting the incident to law enforcement over the phone, Lewis allegedly returned to the front desk and pressed a button on the phone, abruptly disconnecting the call.
Upon arrival, deputies reviewed surveillance footage, which reportedly confirmed the manager’s version of events.
The arrest report shows that Lewis allegedly provided false names twice during questioning. She was taken to the Tamarac District Office, where her sister eventually provided her correct identity.
Deputies noted in the report that this was not the first time Lewis had called 911 to accuse leasing office staff of making her feel unsafe. She had done the same thing on March 13.
Lewis was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. She was later released after posting a $3000 bond.
