Norse Atlantic Airways opened its official operation from the Fort Lauderdale Airport with an inaugural flight to Oslo, Norway.
The airline’s arrival at the county’s airport means residents can fly to Europe for a price of a domestic flight, with one-way tickets starting at $149.
The first commercial flight from Fort Lauderdale to Oslo on June 20 followed the company’s inaugural flight between New York JFK and the Norwegian capital on June 14. Norse Atlantic will offer three flights a week from FLL to Oslo starting in July and add an Orlando-Oslo route at the same time.
The company also connects Los Angeles and New York City with weekly flights to Berlin and London and promises to introduce more routes in the future.
Bjorn Tore Larsen, CEO of Norse Atlantic Airways, said the airline is delivering on its promise to offer affordable value and a quality traveling experience to all passengers.
“Our first Norse Atlantic Airways flight from Fort Lauderdale to Oslo is the culmination of months of preparation and hard work by dedicated colleagues across all departments. This marks a proud moment for us all at Norse as we now look ahead to ramping up our network for the benefit of customers, businesses, and local economies,” he added.
Norse’s first Fort Lauderdale departure was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting at Gate 3. Broward County Mayor Michael Udine proclaimed June 20 as Norse Atlantic Airways Day and presented Larsen with the Keys to the County.
“Norse’s debut at FLL is an important milestone for our airport as it marks the return of transatlantic service and a direct link to Europe that has been missing for a few years,” said Mark Gale, FLL CEO and Director of Aviation. “South Florida travelers now have a new affordable flight option for traveling between FLL and Oslo, and we hope to see more European service from Norse in the near future.”
Norse uses Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which seat nearly 300 passengers, to service the routes. The passengers can choose from various rates, from the cheapest ones without included baggage, seat choice, or meal to premium cabins with comfortable chairs, two meal services, and generous luggage allowance.
