Despite recent arts funding cuts across the state, Tamarac artist Susan Buzzi is bringing her vision to life through the support of a Broward County Cultural Division Individual Artist grant.
Her project, “Creative Wellness,” combines community engagement, art, and mindfulness in an inspiring initiative that underscores the power of creativity in promoting well-being.
The program kicked off on November 4 with a community workshop facilitated by Buzzi and her collaborator, Dr. Jeff Pickens. Participants explored themes of mindfulness, gratitude, focus, and kindness, creating word clouds that are now part of the exhibit. The display also features artwork created during the workshop and contributions from students at Atlantis Academy, where Buzzi teaches.
“Practicing mindfulness and gratitude, experiencing joy, and living healthy and creatively is overall wellness!” said Buzzi. “The opportunity to present this important programming is most gratifying and perhaps has become more urgent during these times.”
Adding another layer to the project is a short film by collaborator and archivist Isabel Medina.
The “Creative Wellness” exhibit reception takes place on Saturday, November 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center. The exhibit will remain on display through December 31, 2024.

Buzzi added, “I am most grateful to the Broward County Cultural Division for their support and consideration so that the arts can continue to be available for everyone in our communities.”
