Tamarac residents and Tex-Mex enthusiasts have a reason to celebrate as Capital Tacos, the renowned Tampa-based franchise known for its inventive flavors and scratch kitchen, gears up to open its first South Florida location at 5707 North University Drive.
Held on Thursday, June 8, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., the grand opening will include free tacos for a year for the first 50 customers, free hand-cut chips for everyone waiting in line, and special offers for local businesses. Throughout the weekend of June 3 – 4, residents can receive a Golden Taco Ticket for a free taco and other perks.
With multiple locations across Florida, Colorado, Georgia, and North Carolina, Capital Tacos is making a highly anticipated debut in Tamarac, and, according to the cofounder Josh Luger, the community is very excited.
“We’ve gotten to know many of the locals who have already popped in our doors to say hello or wished us well on Facebook. Everyone has been very welcoming. It’s really been a great experience so far, making us even more excited to open our doors and serve the community,” he said.
Luger added that the city’s economic development office reached out to the Capital Tacos team, offering to help in any way. The company also joined the Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and met many kind and helpful leaders in the community who welcomed the business with open arms.
Capital Tacos in Tamarac boasts a spacious and inviting ambiance, seating over fifty diners indoors with plenty of tables for large groups and families. The restaurant features two dining rooms, allowing guests to watch the chefs in the kitchen in the front room or enjoy their meals in a quieter atmosphere in the back room.
For families with kids and those young at heart, the establishment offers delightful amenities like a chalkboard wall where young artists can showcase their creativity and a retro Simpsons pinball machine, adding an element of fun to the dining experience.
“We have an extremely-wide ranging menu and pride ourselves on having something for everyone,” said Luger. “With over a hundred menu items, we suggest folks explore the menu for a few minutes, ask us questions, and try whatever catches their eye. We promise it will be delicious.’
Capital Tacos menu features thirteen chef-created flavor profiles, incorporating proteins, sauces, and toppings, and each can be a taco, bowl, burrito, salad, fries, or nachos.
Luger said the crowd favorites are The Ground Beast with beef, Chapel’s Cheesesteak, promising to be the best cheesesteak outside Philly, and The Big Kahuna, a West Coast-inspired fried fish taco.
“We are known for our Birria Tacos and Monster Quesadillas, and of course, our signature Hand-Cut Chips & Queso, and Mexican Street Corn: hand-shucked in-house, served on the husk, grilled to order and served with a special house sauce, cotija cheese, and lime,” he added.
Luger said the restaurant’s mission is to “deliver the most flavorful and inventive Tex-Mex known to man,” and that motto drives the team behind the brand every day.
“We run a true scratch kitchen, prepping dozens of homemade recipes and ingredients every morning. Each item is grilled to order, and we dream up and create new menu items and flavor profiles all the time,” he added, adding that the company strives to offer truly unique and delicious food, great value, and a total reset of expectations of what Tex-Mex can be.
Luger added that Capital Tacos is committed to becoming an asset to the community, seeking partnerships with local organizations and causes to extend its service beyond the restaurant’s walls.
Capital Tacos’ hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The Tamarac’s location would be open for dine-in, pick-up, and delivery, with catering options available.
