Leonard “Len” Ronik, the first president of Kings Point in Tamarac, died on Jan. 7. He was 92.
A resident of the 55 and over community for 26 years, Ronik was granted the title of President Emeritus by Kings Point’s Board of Directors in 2015. Before his inaugural presidency, Ronik was elected president of the Malvern Homeowners Association and, before that, was a member of the President Council Ad-Hoc committee in Kings Point, community leaders said.
Richard Bobker, current president of Kings Point, said Ronik performed due diligence on “everything that crossed his desk” and was able to save the association large amounts of revenue from insurance settlements, contracts, mediations, and purchases.
“While President, Len strived to make Kings Point the finest adult community, and he established certain goals and made significant accomplishments dealing with issues that were representative of the majority interest of our homeowners,” Bobker wrote in a tribute to Ronik.
Born in Manhattan, New York on July 7, 1932, Ronik moved to Queens upon marrying his wife, Ethel. The couple had two children and two grandchildren, according to Bobker.
While living in Queens, Ronik served five terms as president of his synagogue in the Queens Village neighborhood, Bobker said. He was also a U.S. Army veteran and served with the military police while stationed in Korea.
The Roniks moved to South Florida in 1994 and made Kings Point their home in 1998. In 2004, when Lennar transitioned their board of directors from developer control to control by Kings Point leaders, Ronik was elected president of the Malvern association and Kings Point’s first-ever president.
Ronik showed “exceptional leadership” and dedication to the governing of Kings Point and continued to attend board meetings for many years after his retirement, according to Bobker.

Among Ronik’s major achievements and favorite moments at Kings Point: the groundbreaking and opening of The Palace Performing Arts Center; the renovation of the Kings Court building from a Lennar sales office into a popular space for residents; the upgrading of Kings Point’s Clubhouse to include a new café; and the introduction of a new fleet of buses at Kings Point, replacing the old trolleys.
A funeral service for Ronik was held Jan. 9 at the Star of David Memorial Chapel in North Lauderdale.
