Malleiko Vallintine {BSO}
A man has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged unprovoked stabbing outside a Tamarac 7-Eleven.
According to records, on January 17, deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported stabbing incident at a 7-Eleven located at 4999 North State Road 7. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a victim suffering from a laceration to the left shoulder.
The victim was transported to Florida Medical Center for medical treatment, but during transport, was able to provide deputies with a description of the suspect, later identified as Malleiko Vallintine, 32, of Fort Lauderdale.
With a description of Vallintine, deputies immediately initiated an overnight search that included the assistance of K9 and Aviation Units. Eventually, Valentine was apprehended after hiding in bushes approximately one mile from the crime scene.
During the apprehension, Vallintine sustained a K9 bite and was transported to Florida Medical Center, the exact location the victim was sent for treatment.
With both the victim and suspect hospitalized, deputies conducted a follow-up investigation in which the victim provided a more complete statement, recounting the events leading up to the attack.
Arrest records show the victim stated that while walking outside the 7-Eleven earlier in the day, he was randomly approached by a man who attempted to stab him multiple times for no reason. He stressed that he did not know Vallintine, nor was there a prior disagreement or altercation.
The victim told deputies he managed to defend himself by taking out a pocketknife of his own, which temporarily fended off Vallintine. The victim did, however, end up sustaining a shoulder laceration that required 12 stitches.
Surveillance footage from the 7-Eleven corroborated the victim’s account of the stabbing. The video showed the victim backing away as Vallintine chased him, making aggressive slashing motions. After the victim tripped and fell, Vallintine continued the attack, attempting to stab the victim multiple times as he tried to escape.
Based on the victim’s injuries and video evidence, deputies established probable cause to charge Vallintine with attempted second-degree murder.
Vallintine was transported to the Broward County Main Jail following treatment.
